Event-driven system for fall detection using body-worn accelerometer and depth sensor

چکیده
In this paper we present efficient and effective algorithms for fall detection on the basis of sequences of depth maps and data from a wireless inertial sensor worn by a monitored person. A set of descriptors is discussed to permit distinguishing between accidental falls and activities of daily living. Experimental validation is carried out on freely available dataset consisting of synchronized depth and accelerometric data. Extensive experiments are conducted in the scenario with a static camera facing the scene and an active camera observing the same scene from above. Several experiments consisting in person detection, tracking and fall detection in real-time are carried out to show efficiency and reliability of the proposed solutions. The experimental results show that the developed algorithms for fall detection have high sensitivity and specificity.

Fall Detection Using Body-Worn Accelerometer and Depth Maps Acquired by Active Camera
In the presented system to person fall detection a body-worn accelerometer is used to indicate a potential fall and a ceiling-mounted depth sensor is utilized to authenticate fall alert. In order to expand the observation area the depth sensor has been mounted on a pan-tilt motorized head. If the person acceleration is above a preset threshold the system uses a lying pose detector as well as ex...
متن کاملFuzzy inference-based fall detection using kinect and body-worn accelerometer
In this paper we present a new approach for reliable fall detection. The fuzzy system consists of two input Mamdani engines and a triggering alert Sugeno engine. The output of the first Mamdani engine is a fuzzy set, which assigns grades of membership to the possible values of dynamic transitions, whereas the output of the second one is another fuzzy set assigning membership grades to possible ...
متن کاملAn Event-Triggered Machine Learning Approach for Accelerometer-Based Fall Detection
The fixed-size non-overlapping sliding window (FNSW) and fixed-size overlapping sliding window (FOSW) approaches are the most commonly used data-segmentation techniques in machine learning-based fall detection using accelerometer sensors. However, these techniques do not segment by fall stages (pre-impact, impact, and post-impact) and thus useful information is lost, which may reduce the detect...

An enhanced fall detection system is proposed for elderly person monitoring that is based on-body sensor operating through consumer home networks. The on-body sensor which consists of accelerometer and cardiotachometer is used in this model. In this proposed system accelerometer measures overall vibration by means of using Signal Magnitude Vector and trunk angle. Here Signal Magnitude Vector is...
متن کاملComparison of low-complexity fall detection algorithms for body attached accelerometers.
The elderly population is growing rapidly. Fall related injuries are a central problem for this population. Elderly people desire to live at home, and thus, new technologies, such as automated fall detectors, are needed to support their independence and security. The aim of this study was to evaluate different low-complexity fall detection algorithms, using triaxial accelerometers attached at t...
